Sophie’s artistic process is take photos of the architectural subjects she wants to paint. Back at her studio, she builds up layers of paint and mixed media onto the canvas then removes some to build up layers and texture. Choosing to use bits of card or wood sticks rather than brushes as those bring a distinctive finish to her pieces in keeping with architectural lines.

SOPHIE HISTON
ARTIST BIO
Surrey based artist Sophie Histon has been painting all her life. Also an architect with her own company Histon Allvey which she has run with her husband since 1999. Her art practice is inspired by unique architecture as she finds innate beauty within their formation and the structures embedded within.
Sophie’s process with each work is to take photos of the architectural subjects she wants to paint. Back at her studio, she builds up layers of paint and mixed media onto the canvas then removes some to build up layers and texture. Choosing to use bits of card or wood sticks rather than brushes as those bring a distinctive finish to her pieces in keeping with architectural lines.
Working with a pallet of natural hues and honouring a dynamic abstract style, the result are truly unique contemporary artworks bringing buildings such as St Paul’s, Battersea Power Station or the Sacre Coeur to life.
Sophie exhibited with Artfully Sorted at the Affordable Art Fair Battersea in 2023 with lots of her work finding new homes.
