ARTIST BIO

Yeside Linney was born in Nigeria but educated in England, where she now lives. Her art focuses primarily on semi-representational landscapes and vibrant abstracts. Through these she develops an ongoing visual autobiography, examining her sense of identity through the juxtaposition of a British education and her Nigerian heritage.

Working mainly in acrylics and inks, many of her pieces are enhanced through the application of a resin coating. Each piece is produced from an intensely independent style, which flows free of convention and defies easy categorisation. Yeside’s approach has always been intuitive; change is at the core of the ongoing dialogue with herself as an artist.

Although Yeside’s art journey is relatively nascent, she has met considerable success: Runner Up in the 2021 Surrey Artist of the Year competition; winner of The Euan Millar Abstract Prize and The Susan Angoy Prize in The Holly Bush Emerging Artists Awards 2022. In 2023, her work featured in the Windrush celebration exhibition: ‘Roots, Culture, Identity’ and at the Holding Space exhibition at Hauser & Wirth. Her painting ‘Letter to My Daughter 2’ was selected by the Affordable Art Fair committee for their Black History Month curated wall here at the fair.
