Wimbledon's Art Experts

We’ve had the pleasure of learning more about Artfully Sorted’s leading lady Charissa Risley, as she gives us an insight into the making of Wimbledon’s much loved art consultancy

Artfully Sorted is an established art consultancy founded by Wimbledon-based Charissa Risley sourcing unique works of art and sculpture for private residences and commercial premises around London and beyond… With Charissa’s “incredible eye” and professional expertise, this art advisory service excels at finding that finishing touch to a space. They currently work with 40 artists, many of whom are local and award winning, such as Jo Holdsworth, Alanna Eakin and Katharine Rowe. Artfully Sorted also works with a few partner galleries, thereby offering clients a varied and exciting selection of stunning art.

Who/ What inspired you to start your own business?

My passion for art developed from a young age as I grew up surrounded by paintings as my mother Fereshteh Stoecklein is an internationally acclaimed artist. My father Manfred was a hotelier for a luxury hotel chain, with postings around the world. This meant I was immersed in different cultures and artistic expressions, as well as the interior design of those fine hotel establishments, throughout my childhood. That upbringing was the foundation upon which I would later in life pursue a role marrying art with interiors and filling homes with happiness, as mine was.  It was my mother’s suggestion I did a course at Sotheby’s London on “Selling Art in the Modern World” after a successful exhibition I had put on for her in Wimbledon, and never looked back after that. Artfully Sorted is now an established arts consultancy helping clients find beautiful art for their homes. We are featuring as one of 50 exhibitors at the forthcoming global online fair with the  Affordable Art Fair this April.  Dream come true.

What do you enjoy most about running your own business?

So many aspects of running Artfully Sorted I find enjoyable. From working with talented creatives who inspire me with their beautiful art, to brightening clients’ walls and homes with the art we find, and through those art sales, supporting charities like Artists in Residence and World Land Trust. In fact, World Land Trust selected Artfully Sorted as one of their most inspiring fundraisers of 2020 thanks to our art show ‘Nature Reflected’ which supported them with percentage of sales. Receiving that accolade was one of my proudest moments since starting my business.

Which product/service have you enjoyed creating the most?

Building our art sourcing portfolio with 40 award winning artists was so exciting and incredibly rewarding.  Meeting these talented creatives and learning their story behind becoming  professional artists was so inspiring in itself.  Artfully Sorted consultancy is built on the foundations of these wonderful artists, showcasing a range of artistic styles and budgets in our portfolio. As a result, we have great success in finding the perfect piece for our clients and our testimonials show the positive experience our clients have had using our service.

How will you be celebrating Mothers Day/International Women’s Day?

I will be celebrating Mother’s Day / International Women’s Day with my amazing mother, who is in our bubble. Feel so blessed to be able to do so and there may be some bubbles flowing as it is her birthday not long after.

What advice would you like to pass on?

Your network of friends and family is gold dust. Nurture it and don’t be reluctant to lean on it. Not only is it a good place to tap into for sounding out your business plan, but your network can also help spread the word. To grow a business word of mouth is so valuable, as I found with Artfully Sorted. My tribe have been amazing in promoting my art advisory service to their network.  Forever grateful. And features like this one Lady Wimbledon,  championing The Women Behind the Brand, is so amazing to be part of. Thank you for all you do for our community supporting local businesses, mumpreneurs and the people of Wimbledon.
